While bartending at The Citizen’s Trust cocktail lounge, we released a menu based on the concept of Samin Nosrat’s best selling book, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. I was given the opportunity to design this alongside the head bartender, Logan Demmy.

Pulling vectors from a 1930’s edition of The Encyclopedia of Illustration, I went through the tedious process of translating every plant’s name from Latin in order to include imagery of every botanical that might be involved in the process of making cocktails. Everything from the citrus of lemon to the juniper of gin resides on the cover of the booklet. Conceptually, the menu reflects Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by offering guests five classic cocktails (Hiball, French 75, Mai Tai, Martini, Old Fashioned) and then subsequently having a list of spins on those classics in the four-directional compass of, respectively, salt, fat, acid, and heat. The resulting menu was extraordinarily well received.
